Are you a kid, teen, or family ready to take direct action in Evanston?

Welcome to The Outpost. This isn't a charity club—it’s a home base for youth-led organizing, creative advocacy, and neighborhood solidarity.

We believe that community care is a team sport. Whether we are assembly-lining fresh lunches for the fridges or Connections for the Homeless, building infrastructure for our neighbors, sorting and packaging food rescue items, or writing to our local leaders to demand change, we’re here to show that when we work together, we have the power to sustain and care for one another.

Who Is the Crew?

  • Teens (13–18): Step into leadership. Join us independently to organize drives, manage mutual aid projects, and earn service hours through direct action.

  • Youth (8–12): Get your hands dirty with art, service, and civic work. (Independent participation welcome!)

  • The Kiddos (Under 8): Start practicing community care early. Join us alongside a caretaker to work on projects together.

  • Families & Caretakers: Join the movement. The Outpost is a space for all generations to build neighborhood solidarity side-by-side.

What we do:

  • Food & Essentials: We partner with Evanston Community Fridges to learn and help manage food rescue sorting, pack meal kits, and prep fresh sandwiches for our shared food sites.

  • Art & Resistance: We use the Art Makers Outpost studio for printing and creating—from cards for incarcerated youth and seniors to community care window signs, protest art, and "give-away" art kits that keep our community connected.

  • Civic Voice: Kids and teens speak truth to power here. We create artistic postcards and letters to elected officials to advocate for systemic change, food justice, and human rights.

  • The "Sunrise Stroll": We will frequently head out as a crew to the Sunrise Fridge to clean, organize, and restock the site, ensuring our local food infrastructure stays strong.

  • Youth-Led Initiatives: Have a plan for an essential drive or a neighborhood project? We provide the space and mentorship for you to launch your own initiatives right here at AMO and have reserved dates for these youth-led initiatives.
